Queen released their "Bohemian Rapsody" - no technological special effects used - created it themselves and the video was made in 3 hours. - Was the first proper music video, too hard to perform live so it had to be shortened. Directer: Bruce Gower. The famous image of the 4 of their faces is iconic - has been parodyed many times.
1980 - John Lennon murdered.

MTV wasn't ging to get money if the video's wern't selling records.
MTV went natio wide - was one of the top 40 channels you watched.
MTV became more interested in the way people looked. If you looked good in the video, the record would get played. - Duran Duran - MTV took over their 'look'.
Most expensive video ever made (up to that time) - Wild Boys. - Michael Jackson's THRILLER soon took over.
1983 - The year of the cabbage patch doll.
Boy George - drag queen
Frankie Goes to Hollywood - "Relax" - America didn't understand wha the song was about, (ejaculation) - was BANNED before anyone could see it on screen.
Gay soddomy scenes
Never got played on the radio, however was still a very successful record.

Before MTV, no one knew what Rock 'n' Roll looked like - no one would know what you looked like.

"Thriller" - one if the greatest videos (if not THE greatest) of all time. - inspired by the film "American Wolf". - Power of the video sold records.
